Finn Hall

reflections / muistelmia

Regular price $15.00

The first full-length recording, Reflections/Muistelmia from Finnish-American's favorite practitioners of the pelimanni (folk musician) tradition, Finn Hall! Accordionists, Al Reko and Dennis Halme and mandolinist Ralph Tuttila all learned this music through childhood exposure in Minnesota and Michigan. The terrific, Finnish-born vocalist Elina Ruppert adds a shot of "new blood" into the old tradition. Cheryl Paschke and Margaret Norling have played this music so long that we tend to forget that they are not suomalaisia (Finns). Michigan's great folklorists Oren and Toni Tikkanen round out the ban's line-up.

A collection of dance tunes and songs, both traditional and composed, this recording pays homage to that greatest of Finnish-American immigrant institutions from which the group draws its name - the Finn Hall.
